Back to School & Managing Parenting Stress

Back to school nights, school schedules, supplies and clothes, extracurriculars, homework, packed lunches, transportation, rushed dinners, and the list goes on...
Parents probably recognize this as the back-to-school time of year.

This is also a time of high stress for parents/caregivers. Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Self-care, especially during peak stress times of the year, is absolutely essential.

With this in mind, I encourage you to double down on self-care. This will look different for everyone, but may include:

Quality sleep,
Scheduled personal time devoted to yourself,
Proper nutrition,
Leaning into social support systems,
Meditation, prayer, hobbies, and fun social engagement,
A good book, movie, or podcast,
Breathing, yoga, exercise, or time in nature,
Anything that nourishes your soul and reduces stress.

This isn’t selfish behavior, this is necessary for being able to meet the demands of family and life.

A gentle reminder that your kids don't need perfection; they need you at your best. So, I encourage you to take care of yourself as you take on this school year.

Be well!
